Complete Vacation Package Details:
Your 3 day trip into America's royal past begins with checking
into the newly restored King Charles Inn, located on Meeting
Street in the heart of Charleston's historic district. The Inn itself
(circa 1830) is a part of Charleston's history and has provided respite
to many visitors throughout the years, including Edgar Allen Poe.
In addition, the King Charles Inn was recently featured in
Southern Living Magazine.
Soon after checking in, the royal treatment begins! A private
Carriage tour, provided by the Olde Town Carriage Company,
The finest carriage company in Charleston, will pick you up at
4:00pm in front of your hotel. The tour will unveil the wealth and
majesty of King Charles II's favorite colonial city. The royal treatment
continues as your private carriage delivers you to the front of
Mistral. Mistral French Bistro offers a wonderful appeal, serving local
seafood and French cuisine worthy of a king. Following dinner, stroll
across the street to Club Habana, Charleston's finest cigar and martini
bar.
Begin day 2 with a tour of one of the great landmarks of American
history, Magnolia Plantation. Described by famous travel writer
Charles Kuralt as "my greatest Charleston pleasure", Magnolia
Plantation and Gardens represents aristocracy no matter which
'side of the pond' you favor! Just 10 miles from downtown
Charleston, your morning at Magnolia Plantation includes a tour of
the Drayton Family's home, admission to the world famous 50 acre
Historic Garden, choices of a nature train or nature boat ride
around the property, and much more! Lunch at Baker's Café will
be the perfect compliment to your royal morning.
After lunch, stroll around the corner into a time when American royalty
Dared to challenge their English brethren. The time, of course, was the
time of American Independence and no city captured the spirit more
than Charleston. It is easy to imagine yourself living in that time as you
tour the Heyward-Washington House, built in 1772, home to Thomas
Heyward Jr., signer of the Declaration of Independence. When George
Washington visited Charleston in 1791, the house was rented for his use.
Located in the original walled portion of the city, the neighborhood was
used by Dubose Heyward as the setting for Porgy and Bess. The day
ends with dinner at Meritage.
In the morning of your final day, step into a lifestyle of a wealthy,
rice-planting family with a tour of the Joseph Manigault House. As
seen on America's Castles, the Joseph Manigault House, built in 1803,
is one of the country's premier examples of neo-classical architecture.
The interior reflects an outstanding collection of American, English,
and French furnishings of the period. A charming Gate Temple is the
focus of the period garden. Continue your royal treatment with lunch
at O'Rileys.
